AdminHistoryThe Poplar Labour Party was established in 1949 following the Representation of the People Act of 1948 which merged the two constituencies of South Poplar and Bow and Bromley into one Poplar Constituency. The two former Labour parties of South Poplar and Bow and Bromley were formed in 1919 but there is a considerably longer history of labour associations in Poplar, the Poplar Labour League having been founded in 1891 and a branch of the Social Democratic Federation formed in Bow and Bromley at around the same time.

The Poplar Labour Party ceased to exist in 1971 when the Stepney and Poplar constituency was formed and subsequently the Tower Hamlets Labour Party was established.
