Abstract | Opened in 1874, the site was originally home to the South Grove Schools. The infants' school was renamed Hamlet School in 1949 and the girls' secondary school was renamed the Elizabeth Barrett Browning Secondary School at the same time. In 1959, the latter merged with a school in St. Paul's Way. The building also housed a special school for the mentally disabled from 1906. The buildings were taken over by Avery Hill Campus in 1968. |
