AdminHistoryThe Borough of Bethnal Green Distress Fund was established in February 1943 for the purpose of relieving distress among residents of the borough, arising through the war or other causes, following a suggestion by Mr. J.P. Mitchelhill who donated the first £500 provided the fund was registered as a charity under the War Charities Act, 1940. The Fund was administered by a Management Committee with administrative support from Bethnal Green Borough Council.
